The JR26

The JR26 is already the fifth fully self-developed electric race car built by our team. It features a new aerodynamically optimized monocoque geometry and an advanced suspension concept. Combined with the weight-optimized packaging of the high- and low-voltage components and a battery system specifically designed to maximize competition performance, these improvements contribute to a further increase in overall vehicle performance.

Meet the JR26 team – the faces, emotions and spirit behind our newest racing car.

About Us

Joanneum Racing Graz is a dedicated Formula Student team made up of students from FH JOANNEUM. They all share a deep passion for motorsports and vehicle engineering. Year after year, the Weasels – as the team members call themselves – build a fully functional and competitive JR racing car. At the end of each season, they compete in international Formula Student events, consistently achieving great success. These moments are the result of months of hard work, day and night – driven by the team motto: Never Stop Pushing!

Joanneum Racing Graz was founded in 2003 and first competed in 2004 with the jr04. In the 2023 season, the team consists of around 85 members from various degree programs at FH JOANNEUM.

In Formula Student, teams of university students design, develop, and build their own formula-style race cars and compete in international events.

The competition is divided into the following classes: Combustion Vehicle (CV), Electric Vehicle (EV), and Driverless Vehicle (DV). Teams must pass technical and mechanical inspections before participating in static and dynamic events. Static events include the Business Plan Presentation – an idea of how to integrate the car into a profitable business – Cost and Manufacturing, and Engineering Design. Dynamic events include Skidpad, Acceleration, Autocross, and Endurance.

In 2021, we participated for the last time with a combustion-powered car, and it was a very successful season. We won two overall competitions, reached second place in the world rankings at one point, and finished the season ranked 9th globally.

Since 2022, we’ve been building an electric race car. With the JR22, we won several static disciplines at FS Netherlands and FS Austria. Even in our debut season with an electric vehicle, we secured an overall win at FS Alpe Adria in Croatia. This made us the first Austrian team ever to win an overall competition in the electric class of Formula Student.
