Following the success of the JR23, the Formula Student Racing Team set ambitious goals for the JR24. The proven powered ground system was to be expanded, the entire powertrain passively air-cooled, and the lightweight construction perfected. At the same time, a fundamental improvement of the battery concept was on the agenda.
But the road to the perfect race car was rockier than expected. Delayed parts deliveries drastically reduced the already limited testing time. When the JR24 finally got to do its first laps, reliability issues plagued the start of the season. Valuable time was lost to repairs instead of optimization.
Despite technical problems, the team demonstrated its strength. The entire team delivered outstanding performances in all static competitions. The theoretical concepts and presentations impressed the judges across the board.
Once the technical problems had been solved, the JR24 revealed its true potential. The powered ground system not only worked as planned, but exceeded all expectations. The reliability issues were a thing of the past. In the decisive phase of the season, the JR24 demonstrated consistent reliability and completed three full endurance runs.
The reward for all the hard work, sleepless nights, and setbacks overcome came at the end of the season: 2nd place in the world rankings. The best result in JRG's history at the end of a season.
The JR24 not only became one of the fastest cars of its generation, but also a symbol of what is possible when vision, tenacity, and technical expertise come together.
